Ukraine Gate -Kiev- January 31, 2022- The Ukrainian government has decided to raise the price of plastic bags, the Ukrainian Economy Ministry said, and this decision will take effect from Tuesday, February 1.
Thus, the minimum retail prices for packages with walls over 50 micrometers thick, intended for packaging and transportation of goods and products in retail , catering and services will be: UAH 2.00 per package without handles and side folds, UAH 2.50 for a package without handles, but with side folds or with handles without side folds and UAH 3.00 for a package with handles and side folds. This will limit the circulation of plastic bags and improve the Economy Ministry in the country.
As a reported, in June 2021, the Law “On Restrictions on the Circulation of Plastic Bags in Ukraine” came into force, which, in particular, prohibits the free distribution of plastic bags in retail and catering establishments from December 10, 2021.
Until 1 January 2023, these requirements do not apply to biodegradable and ultra-thin plastic bags intended for packaging and transportation of fresh fish, meat, bulk products, ice and used as primary packaging.
From March 10, 2022, the distribution of ultra-thin (with walls less than 15 micrometers), thin (with walls 15 to 50 micrometers thick) and oxo-decomposable plastic bags is prohibited in shops and catering establishments.
