“This whole situation is related to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Any response that seeks to shift responsibility to Japan is extremely unjustified and unacceptable,” he said.

Matsuno’s statement came in response to Russian Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova, who said on Wednesday (April 6th) that Russia was considering countermeasures against Japan over sanctions against Russia over its attack on Ukraine.
She said Tokyo “inflames anti-Russian hysteria in Japanese society.” Zakharova criticized Japan for “obediently following instructions received from overseas,” which allegedly undermined Russian-Japanese relations.
The United States, the European Union, and their allies continue to impose restrictions on Russia following its February 24 invasion of Ukraine
