Some opposition lawmakers have called for a different date for the day, such as February 24, saying the May 9 mourning is a covert attempt to ban the May 9 celebrations and “use the tragedy in Ukraine for domestic political purposes.”
The adopted resolution stipulates that state flags will be lowered on Remembrance Day. The flag of Ukraine will be placed next to the President’s residence, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Seimas. State and local authorities cannot organize entertainment events and holidays on this day – they will not be allowed to do so.
