The increase in the average cost of the Easter basket for Ukrainians this year was affected by the war in Ukraine, rising inflation and rising “things” by almost UAH 200.

If we talk about the Easter basket, it is largely a reaction to the still cute things. Inflation in Ukraine has reached over 10% over the last year, and, accordingly, this has already led to an increase in the price of this basket. This was despite high yields, such as grain, because flour may not have been much more expensive. But due to the growing cost of labor, respectively, such goods could not help but rise in price, “said Blinov.

According to him, the second point is the logistical problems associated with hostilities in Ukraine. “It was in March that we felt a very strong increase in the so-called cost of borscht, that is, mostly vegetables. Seasonal vegetables, they are usually harvested en masse in the fall, respectively, in the spring they are one of the most expensive in the season. Accordingly, we have seen this logistics, that some goods, even those that Ukraine has in storage, produce in sufficient quantities, have stocks, sometimes even more than for the marketing year, they simply disappear from the retail network. Accordingly, this was due to the fact that logistics was disrupted, “Blinov said.
Blinov noted that the inflation index, which was recorded in March, is quite high.
“It simply came to our notice then. But in April, in recent days, there has been some reduction in the cost of this basket, for example, for a set of vegetables. The same applies to eggs, due to the fact that there is no possibility of large exports of eggs abroad, we see that the situation with eggs this year did not contribute in any way, in fact, the rise in price of Easter basket compared to last year. It all just depends on how many of these eggs to buy. If you bought them in March, it’s one story, another thing – if you buy them now, one or two weeks before Easter. It seems to me that this basket is currently fluctuating in price due to hostilities, “Blinov said.
He noted that if the Easter basket is counted in yesterday’s and today’s prices, it may be slightly lower in price than when it was counted, for example, in March prices.
“This paradox is explained very simply. You understand that on the territory of at least three oblasts, in particular, the capital of Ukraine, there was a certain de-escalation. For example, if Kyiv is actually in such a semi-blockade, and it was impossible to get to the city in terms of directions, logistics was exactly broken, many people left, for example, today’s situation is radically different from March, “Blinov said.
According to Oleg Pendzin, the rise in the price of the Easter basket was influenced by the war started by Russia.
“The war has affected… At the moment, the price of grain on world markets has risen by 70%, and I think this is not the end. To date, the United Nations has officially stated that the war in Ukraine will starve one and a half billion people. Ukraine feeds 400 million people worldwide. If, say, our 50 million grains do not enter our traditional markets, then due to redistribution in the world and due to strong food growth, one and a half billion people will starve, “Pendzin said.
