The Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had launched into the waters off the eastern coastal city of Shinpo at 2:07 p.m. (local time) and that the missile had flown about 600 kilometers at a maximum altitude of about 60 kilometers.
The latest launch marks the 15th demonstration of North Korean forces this year. It came three days after the regime tested an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Let’s add
During a military parade in April this year, North Korea demonstrated a set of SLBMs, including a mini-SLBM, which was reportedly successfully tested from a submarine last October.
SLBMs are the primary means of nuclear retaliation, as the submarine carrying it can go unnoticed, counterattack, and thus allow a country to survive a preemptive attack by the enemy.
At the parade, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hinted that his country could use nuclear weapons if its “fundamental rights” were encroached upon, prompting rumors that he was moving to a more aggressive doctrine of nuclear weapons.
There were fears that North Korea could continue to engage in provocations such as another intercontinental ballistic missile launch or a nuclear test, especially in connection with the inauguration of South Korea’s newly elected president on May 10 or his summit with the US president. Joe Biden, scheduled for May 21.
