“Russia’s underestimation of the Ukrainian resistance and its planning for the ‘best case scenario’ have led to obvious operational failures, preventing President Putin from declaring significant military success in Ukraine at the May 9 Victory Parade,” the statement said.
Details
Intelligence suggests that Russia’s plan to invade was based on the mistaken assumption that Ukrainians would exercise limited resistance, so Russia would be able to quickly surround and bypass settlements.
This assumption has forced Russian troops to try to conduct the initial stage of the operation with an easy, accurate approach, designed to achieve a quick victory at minimal cost, according to the British Ministry of Defense.
However, the miscalculation led to unbearable losses and a further reduction in Russia’s operational focus.
