Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 15, 2022 – Finnish President Sauli Niinistö announced on Sunday that his country will formally apply for NATO membership, as the decision was made at a joint meeting between the president and the government’s Committee on Foreign and Security Policy, and Niinistö believes that this increases the country’s security.
Niinistö also expressed his hope that the Finnish parliament would approve the decision to appeal to the coalition.
The decision will be debated in Parliament on Monday and the vote is likely to take place on Tuesday, and the application on Wednesday, and support for the idea of joining NATO has doubled among the Finnish people.
After the Russian invasion, as Finland and Russia have a common land border of about 1,200 km.
