The European Commission has proposed to the European Union a new draft oil embargo against Russia, according to which, due to Hungary’s position, they want to release the Druzhba oil pipeline from sanctions. This was reported by Bloomberg .
Details
According to them, the EU countries are offered to limit the re-export of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline to other member states or third countries. Thus, only Hungary will have access to the Russian pipeline.
The European Commission is continuing the transition period for landlocked countries. Bulgaria will receive a deferral until June or December 2024, and Croatia will be exempted from importing vacuum gas oil.
The ban on sea transportation of Russian oil and gas is proposed to be introduced with a 6-8 month delay.

“This proposal would give Hungary, which opposes the agreement, more time to find a technical solution that would meet its energy needs. It will also take into account the concerns of other landlocked countries, including Slovakia and the Czech Republic.” it is said in the message.
Let’s add
On May 26, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Adviser to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olena Zerkal stated that Ukraine has the Druzhba oil pipeline, which could be a lever of influence on Hungary.
Ukraine has a wonderful lever in its hands – the Druzhba oil pipeline. Even if we value relations with Slovakia, which also receives oil through Friendship, there is a separate thread going to Hungary. It would be very appropriate if something happened to him, “said an adviser to the Minister of Energy.
In turn, the Ministry of Energy explained Zerkal’s statement about the pressure on Budapest through the Druzhba pipeline.
