Samsung Australia has admitted that it is misleading buyers of some of its phones in the Galaxy line in terms of water resistance. The regulator first sued the company in July 2019.
Samsung Australia said in a statement that its new, current models do not have such a problem.
The regulator said that from March 2016 to October 2018, the company placed ads in stores and social networks, which claimed that the phones can be used in swimming pools or in sea water.
However, the ACCC received hundreds of complaints from users who claimed that smartphones did not function properly or even stopped working completely after exposure to water.
Samsung and ACCC have agreed that the changes the company has made to new smartphone models released in Australia since March 2018 have not faced such risks from water exposure, the company said.
