Most Ukrainians are not ready to sacrifice territory for the end of the war. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted in May 2022 by the National Democratic Institute and published on the KIIS website,
KYIV. UkraineGate. 1st of July. 2022 | Society .
Details
89% of Ukrainians consider the return of all territories, including Crimea and Donbass, to be the only acceptable scenario for the end of the war. For 66% of respondents, it is unacceptable if the war ends within the borders established on February 23, 2022, ie without the Crimea and some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The option of achieving peace, for which Ukraine claims only the territory that is now under its control, is unacceptable for 81% of Ukrainians.
In addition, 90% of respondents expect that by 2030 Ukraine will be a member of the EU and 73% – a member of NATO. In December, these figures were 58% and 48%, respectively.

The fieldwork was performed by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from May 2 to 11, 2022 using the computerized telephone survey system (CATI) method with 2,500 completed interviews. The survey is representative only of the adult population currently living in Ukraine and using mobile phones. Territories that were not under the control of the Government of Ukraine until February 24, 2022, were excluded from the study. The average error for the national sample does not exceed +/- 3%.
