According to Kamyshin, not to index tariffs for passenger transportation is a principled position of the authorities, and Ukrzaliznytsia supports this position.
“Now the situation is difficult, Ukrainians are forced to move around the country and abroad due to hostilities. For many, the railway has become a way of life, and it would be unfair to raise tariffs now. And I think this is the right position,” said the head of Ukrzaliznytsia.
He also added that this year Ukrzaliznytsia indexed freight rates more than usual in order to prevent the raising of tariffs for passenger traffic.
Let’s add
From June 29, tariffs for rail freight have been indexed by 70%.
As noted, this is the minimum possible indexation of the value of tariffs, which will ensure a solidary and fair burden on business, the state and international partners in overcoming the consequences of Russia’s military aggression. At the same time, the increase will not be critical in the formation of export prices: the price of ferrous metals and grain will increase by only a few percent, which is fully offset by the positive price situation in foreign markets.
