A source close to Johnson told Sky News he would “continue to fight” and “absolutely resist” calls for a voluntary devolution.
ITV, citing sources, said Johnson told ministers his resignation would lead to political instability and calls for a general election, instead focusing on a “summer of economic growth”.
“The prime minister is aware that he has a mandate from 14 million people and the only way he will go is if the party takes that mandate away from him,” a source close to the Conservative leader told Sky News.
As noted, the current head of the 1922 Procedures Committee, Sir Graham Brady, warned Johnson that after the re-election of the head of the committee there, they could change the rules and initiate another vote of no confidence. It is expected that after Johnson’s refusal to resign, several more members of his government will announce their resignations – so far, the media have counted about 40 resignations.
As is known, the previous time Johnson was tried to express no confidence on June 6, then he retained his position.
Let’s add
Earlier, six ministers left Boris Johnson’s government.
So, in less than a day, a number of ministers left their positions: the head of the Ministry of Finance Rishi Sunak, the Minister of Health Sajid Javid, the Minister of Children and Family Affairs Will Queens, the Minister of Education Robin Walker and others.
As the mass media point out, the main complaint is not against the results of the work or the course of the Conservative Party, but the main complaint against the Prime Minister personally.
