The chief financial officer of HSBC, Even Stevenson, said that on the eve of February 24, about 200 people worked in the Russian department.
So far, Russian Expobank has refused to comment on the negotiations.
Reuters notes that several of the world’s leading financial services companies have decided to sell or drastically reduce their business interests in Russia after it invaded Ukraine. Among other banks, France’s Societe Generale sold its unit to oligarch Volodymyr Potanin, while Italy’s UniCredit is exploring options for the future of its Russian business, which employs about 4,000 people.
