Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said her country and like-minded countries would use the G20 meeting to highlight the effects of the war. “We will collectively clearly state our views on Russia’s position and behavior,” she said.
On the agenda of the two-day meeting is also a discussion of energy and food security issues, meanwhile, Russia is accused of igniting the global food crisis and increasing inflation by blocking the supply of Ukrainian grain.
Some US and European officials stressed that the meeting would not be “business as usual”, and a representative of the German foreign minister said the G7 countries would coordinate their response to the laurel.
Addition
The G20 includes Western countries that have accused Moscow of war crimes in Ukraine and imposed sanctions, as well as countries such as China, Indonesia, India and South Africa, which have reacted with more restraint.
Senior officials from Great Britain, Canada and the United States avoided representatives of Russia during the G20 financial meeting in Washington in April.
In 2014, the G7 excluded Russia from the G8 due to the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea.
