“I am also always close to the long-suffering population of Ukraine, which is rained down by rockets every day,” Pope Francis said.
He stated this after saying the “Angel of the Lord” prayer on Sunday.
“Isn’t it clear that war brings only destruction and death, alienating nations from each other, killing truth and dialogue? I pray and hope that all international actors will really make efforts to resume negotiations, and not to fuel the senselessness of war.”
Before that, the Holy Father also addressed his thoughts to the people of Sri Lanka, which is experiencing a severe economic and socio-political crisis. He called on all parties to seek a peaceful solution that would respect the rights of all.
“I join religious leaders in calling on all to refrain from any form of violence and to initiate a process of dialogue for the common good,” Pope Francis said.
Addition
In an interview with Reuters, Pope Francis said that he is going to visit Canada in July and hopes to be able to visit Moscow and Kyiv as soon as possible after that.
The Ukrainian side believes that the visit of Pope Francis to Ukraine will strengthen the role of the pontiff in restoring peace on our land.
