The New York Times newspaper wrote that, according to one of the top UN officials, Russia “technically did not violate” the agreements signed in Istanbul regarding the unblocking of the sea export of grain from Ukraine with its missile attack on the port of Odesa.

“To put it mildly, we were surprised by such a position. First, it is inconsistent with the statement of Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who unconditionally condemned the shelling of the Odesa port. Second, the international community was unanimous and clearly indicated Russia’s violation of its obligations within the framework of ensuring the safe functioning of the port infrastructure for the export of grain,” said Nikolenko.
He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately turned to the leadership of the UN for clarification. We were assured today that an off-the-record comment by an “unnamed source” to The New York Times does not reflect the position of the United Nations. Only the statement of Secretary-General Guterres reflects the organization’s position.
