“There is a single mechanism according to which a person who is accused of treason (may be stripped of his mandate – ed.)… We do not yet have a law on collaborators. By the way, it should be accepted, because perhaps it would become a precedent for the decisions of such people who have a representative mandate. And not only in the Verkhovna Rada, but also in local self-government bodies, because there are a certain number of deputies who also defected to the side of the enemy. So, it is possible to exclude today according to the court’s decision. The Verkhovna Rada cannot decide this. This is a bit of a strange story. But on the other hand, it was established from the beginning of Ukraine’s independence as a safeguard, so that it was not possible to throw out some opposition deputy, accusing him of something. But today we have a negative consequence of the essentially democratic mechanism,” Reiterovych noted.
Let’s add
At the same time, according to the political scientist, pro-Russian People’s Deputies can formally undermine the legitimacy of the Verkhovna Rada’s decisions, but they will not deliberately do so.
“Those who are present in the Verkhovna Rada, and somewhere there may be secretly waiting for the arrival of Russia, have either already been completely disappointed in this, or have gone into hiding and will not try to somehow influence the decisions and disrupt the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” he noted.
At the same time, some former members of the “Party of Regions” remain in the Verkhovna Rada. In particular, People’s Deputy Anton Yatsenko , who in 2014 supported the “dictatorial laws of January 16”, and now launched a fight against the local authorities in Cherkasy region. Because of this, the law enforcement officers are asked to check Yatsenko for collaborationism .
It should be noted that draft law No. 7318 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada , which proposes to prohibit former “regionalists”, communists and people from a number of anti-Ukrainian parties from running for president, people’s deputies and other leadership positions.
