“Since the beginning of the war, the UN representative office, as well as non-governmental organizations, could not deliver the necessary aid to those regions that are not under the control of the Ukrainian authorities, for example, in the Zaporizhzhia region,” Abreu said.

He added that during the current week, Russia did not allow the UN to come to places where the population needs help. In particular, the organization should deliver more than 50 tons of humanitarian aid to regions that are under constant bombing and attacks.
“Since February, we have not had the opportunity to come to Mariupol, Kherson, Donetsk, Volnovakha, despite our efforts and informing the aggressor about our planned actions. The same applies to Lysychansk and other cities that are occupied. Nevertheless, we are trying to fulfill all our obligations under international humanitarian law,” Abreu added.

At the end of June, the UN said that Russia did not grant the UN monitoring mission access to the temporarily captured Mariupol and Kherson in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the population. The situation in the regions remains critical.
