The day before, most gas suppliers announced their bids for January. What has changed compared to December and what will be the cost of natural gas after the New Year?
In January, citizens will buy gas at a price of 6.99 to 10.8 hryvnias per cubic meter, depending on the gas supplier.
After the liberalization of the gas market in Ukraine, there is no longer a single price for natural gas for the population.
Five days before the end of the month, each supplier must publish its bids for the following month. Almost all traders did it the day before
Gas supply companies in the competitive natural gas market offer the population of Ukraine in January to buy gas at a price of 6.99 to 10.8 hryvnia per cubic meter, with the minimum price higher than in December by 11%, and the maximum by 20.5%.
In 2021, Ukrainians will pay more not only for gas as a commodity, but also for its supply. Relevant changes were approved by the tariff regulator at the end of the year.
Even on one floor of an apartment building, the cost of gas for different apartments can vary by several hryvnias.
To find out the price of gas for the next month, the consumer must find in the receipt the name of the supplier, which is currently more than 50, and go to his website. That’s where the supplier indicates the current price.
By law, each supplier must publish its price offer 5 days before the start of the new month.
If the consumer is not satisfied with the price or quality of the trader’s service, you can switch to another provider: on the eve of the launch of the market, this procedure was significantly simplified.

The lowest price in January was offered to its consumers by the energy company Gaz AP – UAH 6.99 per cubic meter (+ 11% by December). Next is the company Megawatt – 7.05 hryvnia per cubic meter (+ 18% by December). Next is the company “Agrosynthesis Trading” – 7.08 hryvnia per cubic meter (+ 19% by December). “Energy Resources of Ukraine” offers gas at a price of 7.11 hryvnias per cubic meter, and “Askania Energy” – 7.20 hryvnias per cubic meter.
The gas supply company Naftogaz of Ukraine, which serves about 3% of the population, offers fuel in January at 7.22 hryvnias per cubic meter (+ 14% until December).
Gas prices from other suppliers
Prices of other suppliers range from 7.39 to 10.8 hryvnia per cubic meter.
Regional gas supply companies (gas sales), which serve two-thirds of household consumers, in January offer citizens to buy gas at a price of 8.75 to 10.8 hryvnia per cubic meter, depending on the region. Thus, the minimum cost of natural gas at gas distribution facilities increased by 26.8%, and the maximum by 20.5%.
The highest price for January was offered by Lvivenergozbut – 10.8 hryvnias per cubic meter.
In total, as of December 28, 55 gas suppliers had published their January proposals.
What preceded it
• The average price of gas in Ukraine for the population in December is from 6.33 to 8.96 hryvnias per cubic meter.
• On August 1, the natural gas market opened in Ukraine for household consumers, who were able to choose their own gas supplier.
• The public special obligations (PSO) of the state company Naftogaz Ukrainy for the population have also expired, but Teplokomunenerho will continue to receive gas at the price regulated by Naftogaz.
