“The United States is deeply concerned about the reports of intense fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, about the wounded and the dead. We call for immediate action to reduce tensions and prevent escalation,” Ned Price said in a statement.
The European Union, for its part, also called for an immediate end to hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and for the parties to return to negotiations.
“The European Union calls for an immediate end to the hostilities that broke out between the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces around the Lachin Corridor and other places along the contact line. Unfortunately, these clashes have already resulted in casualties and injuries,” Peter Stano said in a statement.
He noted that it is very important to reduce tensions, fully observe the ceasefire and return to the negotiating table to find solutions.
Let’s add
The aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh began on August 1. According to the unrecognized republic, Azerbaijani units tried to cross the contact line from the northern and northwestern border zone.
As previously reported, units of the regular army of Armenia will withdraw from Nagorno-Karabakh in September.
