“My personal position is that such a draft law carries with it corruption risks, because people who, in fact, make decisions about the entire state budget, cannot receive a penny, because then such a people’s deputy who makes decisions about the most important issues of the state, about the allocation of the budget , and he himself receives three pennies, he is one walking big corruption risk. Because it increases the risks of bribery and actually makes such bribery many times cheaper for the corrupt. It seems to me that this is unacceptable,” said Radina.
People’s representatives and experts call such an initiative populist. Like, Yatsenko is trying to make PR on the plight of Ukrainians. In addition, some of Yatsenko’s colleagues draw attention to the fact that for him the deputy’s salary is probably not of great importance, because he managed to get rich on his corruption schemes. Analysts of the “Chesno” movement note that the people’s deputy spent more on advertising on Facebook than he earned as a deputy.
It should be noted that, according to OPORA, from the beginning of the full-scale invasion until July 5, Yatsenko did not register any draft law either as an author or as a co-author. So, probably, the bill on the salaries of people’s deputies is his first legislative initiative since the beginning of the full-scale war.
