The Saudi investment company Kingdom Holding invested more than 500 million dollars in the Russian energy companies “Gazprom”, “Rosneft” and “Lukoil” in February-March of this year.
Details
According to journalists, the Saudi company controlled by billionaire Prince Al-Walid bin Talal invested $365 million in global depository receipts of Gazprom and Rosneft in February. and 52 million dollars. And for February-March, Prince Al-Walid invested 109 million dollars. in the American depository receipts of “Lukoil”.
Some of the investments were made after Western countries began imposing sanctions on Russian companies in the energy sector following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Context
Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries currently maintain a “neutral position” regarding the war in Ukraine. For example, the United Arab Emirates has not yet imposed sanctions on Russia, moreover, Russians can freely travel to this country and do business there.
This is also used by a number of Russian oligarchs, in particular – the former head of “Uralhim” Dmytro Mazepin. After the start of the war, a number of sanctions were imposed on his concern. However, most likely, he still continues to cooperate with the company Quest Group DMCC in Dubai, which is engaged in chartering (agreements on the hiring of vessels for the execution of flights for a specified period of time).
It turned out that a large part of the company’s management team previously worked in the Russian concern “Uralchem”.
Also, earlier on the official corporate website of Quest Group there were logos of the companies “Uralchim” and “Uralkali”, but currently they are missing.
Also, the statement that the charter “is supported by Uralkali Trading, Uralchem Trading, SIB Anthracite Group, Elgacoal” cargoes disappeared from the online booking platform .
So, it is not known for certain whether the subsidiary companies of “Uralchim” and Quest Group DMCC are currently cooperating. However, the fact that the UAE did not impose sanctions on the aggressor country, and Dubai became the capital of “laundering” Russian money, may indirectly indicate that the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the UAE on the chartering of products and their subsequent transportation to other countries is still continuing.
Let’s add
The Russian oligarchs from Vladimir Putin’s inner circle who have been sanctioned, Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, bypass the sanctions of Great Britain because they found loopholes in their legislation.
