The Verkhovna Rada registered an alternative bill to reduce the salaries of people’s deputies to the minimum wage and deprive them of allowances. Unlike the document authored by Anton Yatsenko, draft law No. 7637-1 offers people’s deputies to voluntarily refuse additional payments.
Details
The author of the alternative bill was the people’s deputy from the “Servant of the People” Georgiy Mazurashu. He proposes to give the opportunity to voluntarily apply for a reduction in his salary to the minimum wage and to refuse allowances.
At the same time, Yatsenko Mazurashu called the bill populist, and the alternative more realistic. At the same time, the MP noted that he did not believe that the Verkhovna Rada would support both of these bills.
“If a millionaire author can work as an MP without a salary, which he is probably not very interested in, this does not mean that there should be only rich people in parliament who are not interested in the salary, because they do not live on a salary (…) I have already proposed to legally limit the maximum wages in the public sector, then I “had to” submit an alternative to this bill – with a proposal then to all “special” ones to establish the minimum wage. It is clear that this is unrealistic and wrong. But it is realistic to give rich deputies who do not live on a salary, on a written application, to switch to a “minimum salary”, or to refuse salaries altogether. Although such bills will not be adopted, I think they will not.
The author of the main, as I understand, decided to mockingly “hype”. And I have proposed a realistic mechanism for people like him who are not interested in salaries,” Mazurashu said in a comment to UNN.
Recall
In his draft law, Anton Yatsenko proposes to abolish all benefits and privileges for people’s deputies for the period of martial law, as well as to set their salaries at the minimum wage level.
Economist Oleksandr Okhrymenko noted that this bill will not help save a lot of money. Moreover, he will encourage MPs to take bribes. The Anti-Corruption Committee of the Verkhovna Rada also believes that such an initiative carries corruption risks.
And the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada called this initiative populist.
