Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 2, 2021 – Economy
Experts note that the high prices for eggs, which we observed in December 2020 due to higher prices for feed materials, are likely to remain at the same level or increase.
Comment: “As the end of 2020 shocked feed producers by the instability of the raw materials market, the rapid rise in prices of grain (corn, wheat) and protein (soybean meal / cake) against the background of their shortage, this led to higher prices and feed, which take up to 70-75 % of the cost of production,” says Iryna Boyko, a poultry expert of the Association of Livestock Breeders of Ukraine and AVA Group.
According to her, against the background of these circumstances, farmers are “afraid” that there will not be enough feed: some producers are reducing poultry, and some are even forced to close to wait for unpredictable fluctuations.
Comment: “At the end of December 2020, the cost of egg production at enterprises ranges from 22 UAH / 10 pcs., And the final price on consumer shelves – from 30 UAH / 10 pcs. The question is, how will the price change in January 2021? No manufacturer has a clear answer” adds Boyko.
At the same time, after the New Year holidays, consumer demand will decrease, but the price of eggs is likely to increase due to the gradual reduction of poultry and continued growth in commodity prices.
