The new Prime Minister of Great Britain, Liz Truss, will continue Boris Johnson’s policy. Perhaps with some correction of actions, but definitely the support of Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression will remain unchanged.

“I think that the policy of Liz Truss will be hereditary, that is, it will maintain continuity in relation to the policy pursued by Boris Johnson. If we talk about foreign policy, it should be borne in mind that Truss was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and, together with Boris Johnson, co-authored British foreign policy in recent years. One of the main principles of this policy is to return Britain to the highest leadership positions. After all, for a long time, Britain looked like an ally of the United States and to some extent was in the shadow of the United States. But during Johnson’s time, everyone saw that Britain is a separate player in international politics and one of the brightest leaders. I think that Truss will continue to follow this approach. Whether she will be as bright a personality in this position as Boris Johnson is still an unanswered question.

He added that perhaps some correction of actions will take place, but direct relations with Russia and Ukraine will definitely remain unchanged. As for the support of Ukraine, it will remain no lower than the level that was established during the prime ministership of Boris Johnson.
“Perhaps, by the end of the year, there will be no increase in aid and support. But there will definitely not be a decrease. First of all, in Great Britain, measures will be taken to eliminate the negative consequences of energy carriers, the rise in prices, which happened as a result of Russia’s policy and the war. In the coming weeks, until the new government takes office, measures will be taken to minimize the pressure on the economy, on businesses and on ordinary citizens regarding price increases. There must be a turning point in British society when everyone will see that Russian blackmail did not work, and despite the fact that Russia stopped the supply of gas through the Nord Stream, nothing happened and Europe coped. After all, there is still anxiety about how to survive the winter. I think that this milestone will be passed in December, and already at the beginning of next year, the new British government will be able to expand aid to Ukraine and further strengthen sanctions. Though, I do not rule out that the military training mission may be expanded by the end of the year. But bigger things will happen in January 2023,” the expert said.
As for Truss’s visit to Kyiv, as the political scientist noted, it is quite possible. But this will definitely happen after the formal procedures for the formation of the renewed government are completed, after the program speech, when the Cabinet of Ministers meets for the first time.
“But in order to demonstrate that the policy of Boris Johnson’s government and Britain’s leadership position in supporting Ukraine against Putin’s imperialism is maintained, one call to the President of Ukraine is not enough, you need to come to Kyiv in person,” the political scientist said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with the newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Liz Truss.
