The European Union has published the decision of the Council of the EU to remove former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr, ex-Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka and his son Artem from the list of sanctions imposed for embezzlement of state funds.

“On March 5, 2014, the Council adopted Regulation (EU) No. 208/2014. Based on the review by the Council, the records of the four persons for whom the period of application of restrictive measures expired on September 6, 2022, and the information regarding their rights of protection and the right to effective judicial protection, should be excluded from Annex I. to Regulation (EU) No. 208/ 2014”, the document states.

In particular, four persons were removed from the list of persons who were sanctioned for improper use of budget funds or for related official abuse:
· Viktor Yanukovych;
· Victor Pshonka;
· Oleksandr Yanukovych;
· Artem Pshonka;
They were on the EU sanctions list for improper use of budget funds of Ukraine or for abuse of office, which caused losses of budget funds of Ukraine.
Addition
Former President Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr won in the Court of General Jurisdiction of the European Union to have the EU sanctions imposed on them lifted in 2014.
The Court of General Jurisdiction of the European Union previously satisfied the claims of Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr against the Council of the EU. In particular, on June 9, the sanctions that were effective against Viktor and Oleksandr Yanukovych from March 7, 2019 to March 6, 2020 were canceled.

In August, the EU Council decided to introduce new sanctions against the fugitive former president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, and his son Oleksandr, in response to Russia’s ongoing military aggression against Ukraine.
