“To date, the estimated losses have already exceeded one trillion hryvnias. More precisely, one trillion 276 billion hryvnias is the preliminary losses that we calculated today, thanks to the joint work of the headquarters at the State Environmental Inspectorate, the Ministry, respectively, to all those structural units that work with us. This figure will still be adjusted. But, as practice has already shown, this figure is adjusted only upwards. Unfortunately, the amount is very large. If you translate it today at the dollar exchange rate, it will turn out to be more than $ 35 billion,” Sagittarius said.

The minister also reported that the amount of losses as a result of Russia’s armed aggression in the Kharkiv region, starting from February 24, reaches UAH 83 billion. He added that as a result of hostilities in the region, almost 6 hectares of forest were damaged.
“It’s a huge loss. But the worst thing is that there are parts of ecosystems that are destroyed and that you can’t restore for any money. I am now talking about damaged protected areas. About the objects of the emerald network, about the land. About the places where animals lived for many years, and which today left them in connection with the conduct of hostilities. But despite this, my European colleagues and I are looking for certain methods to create conditions for the fastest restoration of our environment. I am sure that we must do our best so that every country that sooner or later will think about some future war – so that it understands that war is expensive primarily for the environment,” Sagittarius added.
Supplement
As a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion, almost a third of Ukraine’s forest lands have been damaged.
