Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 4, 2021 – Agriculture
The government is calling for a partial compensation program for farmers when buying Ukrainian irrigation equipment.
Mykhailo Petrov, the head of the Prydniprovsky cluster of the Kernel company, made this proposal . He stressed that now irrigation is an expensive “pleasure” for farmers. The expert also offered an alternative “insurance” against drought for agriculture.
The average price of an “upgrade” per hectare ranges from $ 2000-2500. Of the new systems in Ukraine, American ones predominate. The state’s policy of reimbursing part of the interest on loans under agreements with Ukrainian manufacturers would best support the national engineering industry and increase the area under irrigation in the future.
Mykhailo Petrov is the head of the Prydniprovsky Cluster of Kernel.
Mykhailo Petrov also reminded that Ukraine has a large infrastructural heritage in the form of irrigation canals, reservoirs, pumping stations and one of the largest waterways in Europe – the Dnieper River.
There is great potential for agricultural producers to use its water for agricultural production in arid regions. And every year more and more areas of the country belong to such. As practice shows, the state is not the most efficient owner.
