The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide Ukraine with $55 million to prepare for winter in the face of the war against Russia. The funds will be used for the repair and maintenance of pipes and equipment that supplies gas to homes, medical and educational institutions, as well as enterprises in all regions of the country .

“These new funds are in addition to the significant assistance that USAID has been providing to Ukraine’s energy sector since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, and will help ensure uninterrupted supply of heat and hot water to Ukrainians. As part of this initiative, USAID has already provided pipes and other equipment that has helped restore the provision of utilities to 22 thousand tons. Kyiv residents who have lost access to these services as a result of the destruction of civilian infrastructure by Russian troops,” the message says.

In addition, USAID will provide electric generators for hospitals, centers for internally displaced persons, and shelter for socially vulnerable citizens. It is reported that priority attention in providing assistance will be paid to the regions most affected by the war – Zhytomyr, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Mykolayiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
The program under which the funds are provided – “Energy Security” – is designed for five years and aims to help Ukraine create a safer and more transparent energy sector that will ensure “a reliable and affordable supply of energy to Ukrainians along with reducing dependence on Russian gas and electricity.”
