“Thanks to the work of the joint coordination center established in Istanbul, more than 15 million tons of food have been safely sent from the Ukrainian port to countries that need it,” he said.
Supplement
On July 22, Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and Russia signed an agreement (Ukraine and Russia separately) for 120 days aimed at ensuring the safe passage of vessels entering and leaving three Ukrainian Black Sea ports (“Odessa”, “Chornomorsk”, “Yuzhny”), which were blocked by the Russian Federation after Moscow’s invasion on February 24.
Ukraine and Russia are major grain exporters, and the blockade of ports has delayed tens of millions of tons of grain in the country. The first vessel with grain within the framework of the agreement left the port of Odessa on August 1. The first ship for loading for the first time since February 24 entered the port in the Odessa region on August 6. So, the corridor worked in both directions.
