From February 24 to December 26, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded the death of 6,884 civilians in Ukraine and the wounding of 10,947 due to Russian aggression.

“From February 24, 2022, when the armed attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine began, to December 26, 2022, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded 17,831 cases of death or injury of civilians in Ukraine: 6,884 dead and 10,947 wounded,” – the message says.

It is reported that of the 6,884 dead: 2,719 men, 1,832 women, 175 girls and 216 boys, as well as 38 children and 1,904 adults, whose gender has not yet been determined.
Of the 10,947 wounded, 2,364 were men, 1,709 women, 229 girls and 318 boys, as well as 253 children and 6,074 adults, whose gender has not yet been determined.
The organization notes that in the territory controlled by the Government: 7,579 cases (3,569 dead and 4,010 injured). In the territory controlled by the armed forces of the Russian Federation and armed groups associated with it: 2116 cases (483 dead and 1633 injured).
In other regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Volyn and Zhytomyr regions) 8,136 cases (2,832 dead and 5,304 wounded) were recorded in places under Government control at the time of the casualties.
“The majority of recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of large-area explosive weapons, including heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers, as well as rocket and air strikes,” the statement said.
UNHCR believes that the real number of civilian casualties is much higher, as there are delays in receiving information from some places where fighting is ongoing and many reports still need to be confirmed.
“This applies, for example, to the settlements of Mariupol (Donetsk region), Izyum (Kharkiv region), Lysychansk, Popasna, and Severodonetsk (Luhansk region), where, according to reports, there have been numerous cases of the death or injury of civilians,” – it is noted in messages

Russian troops shelled several settlements in the Donetsk region yesterday. As a result of the enemy attack, three people were injured.
