The third generation Mazda 6 came on the market in 2012, and by 2022 it will be ten years old. A little over a year ago, the Japanese company confirmed that production of the fourth-generation Mazda 6 will begin in early 2022. The all-new model, which will use a platform specially designed by Mazda, with a rear-wheel drive layout and a longitudinally located engine, is located at the top of the European premium line.
As a basis for the design of the next Mazda 6, the Japanese automaker will take the concept car Mazda Vision Coupé, presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017, awarded the title of “Concept Car of 2018”. A demo version of a large luxury sedan with both elegant and sporty design, relies on cleaner and more modern lines. Kodo’s design style will still be a priority, with sloping headlights that will blend in with the large front grille.
Mazda will offer a state-of-the-art interior that will follow the same line as the latest generation of compact cars, with a minimalist dashboard design, large screen on the center console, as well as connectivity, comfort and safety equipment and an arsenal of assistants. Driving.
The new Mazda 6 is designed to compete with German premium cars in Europe, especially BMW and Mercedes. The novelty will appear on the European market in the second half of 2022, offering a number of petrol and plug-in hybrid options, including a version with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, the new Skyactiv-X and PHEV. At the top of the line will be a new 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder gasoline engine with 400 hp.
As for diesel options, Mazda has developed a new 48-volt 3.3-liter MHEV engine, although its presence in the new Mazda 6 model line has not been confirmed. The company is aware that new emission standards are becoming more stringent, so it will offer a diesel version in those markets where possible.
