About two months ago, Sony released another press release, in which it teased its own drone called Airpeak. Now, finally, it has been fully presented as part of a virtual presentation at CES 2021. And right away, it should be said that Airpeak supports at once a whole series of mirrorless cameras from Sony Alpha series, and also uses artificial intelligence in order to carry out image stabilization right while flying across the sky.
Referring to the words of Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, the aforementioned drone of the company is intended primarily for “amateur creators who like to shoot in extreme conditions.” The Airpeak drone has four rotors at once, as well as two support arms, which immediately rise during takeoff, which in action looks really extremely smooth and beautiful. Kenichiro Yoshida also said that Airpeak will be launched this spring, but at an unnamed price so far.
And although this drone from Sony looks really impressive, it will surely face some, most likely strong competition in the form of more specialized, mass-consumer-oriented companies, namely DJI, Parrot, together with Skydio. Well, in conclusion, it should be said that in addition to the immediately published demo video, Sony immediately shared official footage of the Airpeak drone in working mode, filming the road tests of the Vision-S, the company’s electric car, which has built-in autopilot technology and was announced about a year ago.
So it was this CES that finally made it clear to all of us that the Japanese corporation Sony, which until then specialized mainly in TVs, cameras, smartphones and cameras, is going to expand its “range” of products in order to spread its influence to even more people, who are interested in other areas besides the ones mentioned above. We can only hope that the company will achieve success both in the field of electric cars and drones.
