Excessive consumption of fructose can adversely affect not only physical but also mental health. Because this sweetener plays a significant role in the formation of several manic behaviors – aggression, bipolar disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Thus, the authors of a study published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior, believe that fructose reduces energy in the cells of the body, activating the inherent reaction to food.
This situation occurs when you feel hungry, and it stimulates impulsiveness and aggression, because in prehistoric times a person was forced to risk his life in order to get food.

According to scientists, the desire to consume more sweets is an evolutionary mechanism that is necessary for survival. But since we now live in an environment where we have sugary foods in the refrigerator or the nearest supermarket, this way of survival has become obsolete.
Chronic stimulation of this mechanism can cause depression. Hyperactive reaction of the body to sugar, caused by a high glycemic index, can contribute to the development of mental disorders.
Previous research has shown that sugar intake, regardless of quantity, does not actually affect mood or facilitate further mental or physical activity. In addition, people who consumed sugar within an hour felt more tired and less attentive than those who did not.
