Comfortable minivans with a monocoque body will appear in the Great Wall lineup. Chinese journalists found out that Great Wall engineers are working on two projects on the new Lemon architecture: the first minivan with the M81 in-plant index will be inexpensive, and the second (referred to in the documents as M83) – luxurious.
Chinese portal Yiche has found documents confirming the imminent reconstruction of one of the Great Wall factories. The factory will be repurposed to produce new minivans, designed around the modular Lemon front-wheel-drive platform. The Lemon architecture allows Great Wall to create passenger cars in various form factors, and the key advantage of the new “bogie” is the ability to implement both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid power plants.
It is known about the future Great Wall minivans that the inexpensive model will be equipped with a 1.5 turbo engine, and the flagship mono cab – the latest 2.0-liter 4N20 engine. Both minivans will be designed with an emphasis on comfort. Probably, the “older” model will compete with such vans as Volkswagen Viloran, Buick GL8 Avenir, and Honda Odyssey.
The Great Wall concern has not produced minivans since 2014. The past family model of the Chinese brand was the Cowry mono cab, which was a copy of the Toyota Voxy with licensed Mitsubishi engines. Seven years later, Great Wall refused to copy Japanese models and developed its own promising power plants.
