Acting head of the FBI’s Washington bureau Stephen d’Antuono announced that three weeks after Donald Trump’s supporters attacked the Capitol in Washington, US intelligence found 400 names involved.
After the special services asked the population for help in identifying the attackers on the Capitol, they received about 200,000 appeals. Some of those who asked for help – recognized in footage from the chronicle of their friends or family members – this, according to Stephen d’Antuno, was “painful”, but it turned out to be the right move.
According to d’Antuono, 130 of the attackers have already been detained.
Citing the District Attorney’s Office, at least 150 have been charged.
The acting head of the FBI’s Washington bureau stressed that the FBI would prosecute all those involved and would not calm down until it became clear how the attack became possible.
On January 6, a group of Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Congress building. Protesters clashed with police, and police used tear gas in response. Dozens of people were detained, five people died during the assault. A curfew was imposed in the US capital, and the National Guard was introduced into the city.
Meanwhile, the FBI is investigating whether foreign governments, organizations, or individuals could provide financial support to those who helped plan and storm the Capitol. Thus, the attention of the US internal intelligence agency, in particular, attracted the payment of the amount in bitcoin, equivalent to 500 thousand dollars, to key participants and a number of groups of the radical movement “alternative right” (alt-right) shortly before the attack. Probably a French citizen was behind the financial transactions.
