Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 28, 2021 – Society
The head of the Institute of Demography of Ukraine. Ptukhi, academician Ella Libanova stated that by 2050, the population of Ukraine will be reduced to 30 million from the current 38 million, and this does not include citizens living in the temporarily uncontrolled territories in the Donbass and in the annexed Crimea.
“In 29 years, from 29-30 million people will live in Ukraine, ” Libanova predicted.
The specialist also recalled that even before 2014, the Institute of Demography of Ukraine gave an estimate for 2050 with 36 million people.
At the same time, the academician noted that it is not the number of citizens that is more important, but the quality of their life in Ukraine.
“In Canada, the territory is much larger, the population is smaller, and the quality of life is incomparable with us. If the Ukrainian economy develops normally and the standard of living compares at least to Poland or Slovakia, firstly, the migration outflow will decrease, and secondly, people from other countries will also begin to come here, ”Libanova said.
At the same time, the specialist admitted that she cannot call emigration such a great blessing, because it is a business problem, and immigration is a state problem. In addition, according to her, the newcomers “demand certain guarantees of the standard of living and the preservation of their culture.”
“I am not convinced of the readiness of Ukrainians to coexist closely with people of a different mentality, a different way of life, ” added Libanova.
The head of the Institute of Demography said that
poor countries or those where there is danger can become a “donor” for Ukraine.
“But there is an opinion regarding the potential migration to Ukraine, as to a more democratic country, from Russia and Belarus – if“ tightening the screws ”continues there, ” she said.
