The Cadillac CT5-V is a good car, but the successor presented by the company was not what everyone expected to see – it has much less power: only 360 hp. compared to the 640 of its predecessor, and it takes 4.8 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h compared to the CTS-V, which does it in 4.0 seconds.
However, on February 1, the company corrected this by introducing a model performed by Blackwing.
The company has been teasing fans for quite some time with the announcement of the CT5-V Blackwing. But this is the first time we can see a “charged” CT5-V in detail and with actual performance.
Borrowing the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 from the CTS-V – albeit with significant upgrades – the CT5-V Blackwing puts out an absurd 668bhp. power and 893 Nm of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of around 322 km / h.
While the CT5-V Blackwing uses the same supercharged V8 engine as its predecessor, it has received many improvements. The CT5 has a larger supercharger (1.7 liters to be exact), new pulleys, aluminum cylinder heads, titanium intake valves, and 46% better airflow.
And for thrill-seekers, there is a manual transmission. The Tremec 6-speed transmission is standard on the CT5-V Blackwing (as well as the CT4-V Blackwing). For a surcharge, you can install a 10-speed automatic transmission, which the brand says shifts faster than competitors’ dual-clutch transmissions.
It is noteworthy that the 3.7-second sprint occurs with the “automatic”, while the manual gearbox will be slightly slower.
The bottom of the CT5-V Blackwing uses a fourth-generation GM magnetic travel control system. The latest version, which is already one of our favorite tweaks, includes upgrades to the front and rear suspension systems to improve handling and comfort on the road. And in both models, power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels.
The charged CT5-V gets a slightly different front bumper with large air intakes and black accents, a few carbon fiber aerodynamic elements for extra downforce, and a darkened grille. The rear of the Blackwing is also adorned with carbon fiber accents such as a new spoiler and diffuser.
The interior of the CT5-V Blackwing has the same subtle changes, with carbon fiber accents on the center console, steering wheel, and door panels, and a nifty 3D printed switch at the driver’s disposal.
In terms of technology, the CT5-V Blackwing gets a 12-inch digital instrument cluster similar to the one found in the C8 Corvette. The large display provides readings for things like tire pressure, overload, and boost forces, with separate displays for the vehicle’s three driving modes – Tour, Sport, and Track.
All of these amenities will cost you a modest $ 84,990 for the base Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The new CT5-V will come in two exclusive colors at launch: Blaze Orange Metallic and Electric Blue.
Buyers interested in purchasing the CT5-V Blackwing can already book the vehicle by paying $ 1,000.
