Due to a sandstorm from the Sahara Desert in Africa, the landscapes of some European cities took on an orange-yellow hue.
“Because of the dust from the Sahara, the landscape in some parts of Europe has changed,” the organization wrote.
As explained in WMO, sand and dust storms usually occur when strong winds lift large amounts of sand and dust from bare, dry soils into the atmosphere.
The organization added that over the past decade, scientists have realized the impact of sand on climate, human health, the environment, and many socio-economic sectors.
“WMO is working to improve warnings about this serious danger to the environment and human health,” the experts concluded.
