US President Joe Biden on Saturday submitted to the US Senate the candidacy of Victoria Nuland for the post of Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
“The candidacy has been sent to the Senate: Victoria Nuland (nominated) for the position of Deputy Secretary of State,” the statement said.
The Senate profile committee is now set to set a date for Nuland to answer questions from lawmakers, followed by a vote in the upper house to approve her candidacy for deputy secretary of state.
Buland’s decision to nominate Nuland was announced in mid-January.
Nuland previously served as US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. From September 2013 to January 2017, Nuland, in the administration of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama, dealt, in particular, with issues related to the policy towards post-Soviet states.
During the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine in 2014, Nuland was one of the Western officials who publicly supported the demonstrators.
