In the spring of this year, a bill on foreign agents may appear in Belarus. Deputies have already begun drafting a law.
Oleg Gaidukevich, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party and a member of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian Parliament, said during a speech at the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly that the country needs to develop and adopt a law on foreign agents. The politician later said that the relevant work had begun in the House of Representatives.
“I am convinced that the law on foreign agents will be considered at the spring session. Will we have time. Relevant work has already begun, ”Haidukevich said.
The law on foreign agents was adopted in Russia in 2012. First of all, he touched upon the activities of non-profit organizations. The law obliges NGOs engaged in political activities and receiving foreign funding to register as “foreign agents”. NGOs should indicate this, for example, on their website and report regularly on their financial situation.
In 2014, a law came into force in Russia prohibiting Russian parties from conducting transactions with foreign states, international organizations and social movements that act as foreign agents of NGOs, as well as Russian legal entities with foreign participation of more than 30% of the share capital.
