How to Dry your hair properly?
Many people think that it is better to dry your hair naturally, as our grandmothers did. But the beauty industry offers us to do it quickly and carefully – using modern methods.

Wrap in a towel:
Wet hair is very vulnerable – due to the absorbed water, it swells and becomes brittle. Therefore, one of the priority tasks is to remove excess moisture from it immediately after washing. It is important to do it right. In order not to damage the structure, carefully wet it with a soft light towel made of natural materials – such as cotton. And that’s all! No twisting and intense push-ups. This will protect the tips from damage. If you have 10-15 minutes in reserve during the morning meeting, you can build a turban on your head without wrinkling your hair. At this time, you can do makeup or breakfast, and excess moisture will finally be absorbed into the towel.
We use nozzles:
The next stage is direct drying. It is important to know how to properly blow dry your hair so as not to damage the hair. We often do not use additional nozzles, preferring to use the entire flow of hot air to achieve an instant effect. But, in fact, the narrow nozzle and the diffuser are just intended for fast and non-traumatic drying. Directed airflow copes with the task much better than undirected waves that confuse and damage the hair. The narrow nozzle allows to dry carefully and at the same time to straighten hair. To do this, we dry each strand, while carefully removing it with a brush.
The advantage of the diffuser is that it helps to evenly distribute air flows and not overheat the strands. It is indispensable if you want to give extra volume to thin hair. But you need to consider how to properly dry your hair with a diffuser.
There are only three main stages:
First, apply the tool for volume at the roots and along the entire length,
divide the hair into large strands,
“Fill” them in turn in the bowl of the diffuser and return to the roots with massage movements, a couple of minutes for each strand. As a result, the hair simultaneously dries and rises at the roots, becomes lush, and looks thicker.
We divide strands:
Experienced hairdressers know how not to damage hair when drying. When visiting the salon, some of us prefer to lie down in an easy chair with our eyes closed or even take a nap. But in fact, it is better to keep your eyes open – because this is where you can “peek” how to properly dry it after washing. The master carefully divides it into zones (nape, temples, neck area), fixing them with special clamps, and dries each of them separately, choosing strand by strand, and moving from root to tip. So our hair does not overheat and is not confused. This technology is easy to replicate on your own. For home use, it is better to choose clips with a hidden rubber band – they are as carefully “treated” as the hair.
Turn on the “cool” mode:
And, no matter how we hurry, it is better to leave the maximum temperature for extreme cases. Drying in a cool or medium mode will take a little longer, but will preserve the beauty and health of hair. Therefore it is necessary to choose the hairdryer in which there are some modes, not less than three: hot, warm and cold. To make sure that the air temperature is comfortable for the hair and scalp, you can direct the flow to the bend of the elbow or palm. There are no unpleasant sensations – so it is safe. Another secret is to keep the hairdryer at the right distance of 15-20 cm, so we definitely do not overheat the scalp and roots.
We start with a warm temperature, and when the hair is a little dry, go to a cool mode. It is not superfluous to use special thermal protective agents or indelible masks – they will help protect the hair structure.
We stop in time:
In order for styling to look good, it is important to stop in time and not overdraw the hair. Therefore, turn off the hairdryer while the it is still a little wet. For 5-7 minutes, while we change clothes and apply lip tint, it dries naturally. This technique will preserve the natural shine and mobility of the hair.
These are universal principles that are relevant to any type and length of hair. But there are a number of additional “life hacks” for different types.
How to properly dry long hair: before you turn on the hairdryer, carefully separate the strands with a comb with thin teeth, using your fingers. And only after that, we start to dry strand by strand, from roots to tips. When the hair dries a little, you can use brushing for long hair – they are larger than regular brushes.
How to dry short hair: be sure to use a long nozzle and hairdryer. Keep the hairdryer a little further from the head – at a distance of at least 20 cm. It can not be divided into segments with clips. But in this case, do not forget to constantly change the direction of warm air, moving from the bands near the face to the back of the head and crown.
So, following these simple principles, we will notice in a couple of weeks that the quality and condition of the hair have improved markedly. And we will no longer look for answers to the question of whether it is harmful to blow dry your hair.
