On March 11-12, 1961, streams of water overflowed through the dam, which became stronger, but no measures were taken to urgently strengthen the dam or evacuate people from the danger zone. At 9:30 the pulp reached Kurenivka and flooded an area of about 30 hectares. In the area of Frunze Street, the height of the shaft has halved. Gradually the thinned pulp became solid as stones. Already in this form, the height of this mass in some places reached three meters.
The stream overturned and carried away cars, buses, trams, knocked down poles of electric networks, tore wires. One of the buses collided with a truck and caught fire.
Pulp almost completely destroyed the tram depot. Krasina, several dozen of his employees were killed.
