President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law “On Ukraine’s Accession to the Extended Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes.”
It is expected that accession to the agreement will allow Ukraine not only to join cultural routes but also to promote its own historical and cultural heritage.
This year, as part of the “Great Construction”, we are launching the “Great Restoration” project, which aims to restore the historical and cultural sites of Ukraine. So that both Ukrainians and foreign tourists can see the beauty and cultural diversity of Ukraine. We are building roads, improving the management of cultural heritage sites, and joining the European agreement on cultural routes so that people learn more about Ukraine both inside the country and abroad, “said Zelensky.
On February 16, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on Ukraine’s accession to the Extended Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes.
The agreement is aimed at forming a common cultural space.
It is planned to achieve this by promoting European identity and belonging through knowledge and awareness of Europe’s cultural heritage, the development of cultural ties and dialogue in Europe, the promotion of quality and sustainable cross-border tourism, and other related activities.
The parties to the agreement are 34 countries, partners – the European Union and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Certificate has been awarded to 39 European cultural routes that pass through more than 50 countries.
It is assumed that joining the agreement will allow Ukraine not only to join the existing cultural routes but also to initiate nominations itself, promoting its own historical and cultural heritage.
