Political life
He is the fifth president of Ukraine, who presided over it on June 7, in the year 2014 – to May 20 of 2019, and he is currently serving as People’s Deputy of Ukraine and heading the European Solidarity Party.
He was a member of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine 2007 – 2014.
When he was elected President of Ukraine in May 2014, he received 54.7% of the vote in the first round. During his presidency, he suspended active Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine and secured Ukrainian foreign policy support from Western countries. Under it, Ukraine obtained a visa-free system with the European Union.
His business
Poroshenko has worked in business and is considered one of the Ukrainian oligarchs; He is regularly ranked in the rankings of the richest Ukrainians. In 1990 – 1991 he started working in the private sector. He was Deputy Director-General of the “Republic” Small Business and Entrepreneur Association and later headed the JSC Ukraine Stock Exchange, which he managed until 1993. From 1993 to 1998, he worked as a general manager of the Ukrainian Industry and Investment Company, and Poroshenko also owns glass and starch companies, an insurance company, and a bank. His volunteer work
In 1998 Poroshenko established a charitable foundation to donate to poor families. In June 2008, he provided a large family with 10 children a house worth 120 thousand dollars in Mali Khotori district in the Vinnytsia region, and in June 2009, he provided a house for a large family in the village of Salnik, Kalinov district, Vinnytsia region. A signing was made in 2009 between the fund and the municipality’s winery, which included rebuilding the dam and building the southern bridge, which had not been implemented for more than 40 years.
According to Poroshenko’s advisor, Yuri Biryukov, in 2014-2015 he donated 350 million UAH for the needs of the Ukrainian army.
On March 4, 2019, the spokesperson for the election headquarters, Poroshenko Oleg Medvedev, said that in five years the president has donated about 1.2 billion to charitable causes, of which more than 550 million – to the needs of the army. According to Medvedev, Poroshenko contributed funds to restore the air defense system in Kiev, passing amphibious assault weapons and sniper rifle fighters from the Special Operations Forces.
On April 30, 2020, during the spread of Coronavirus in Boryspil, a plane carrying the second batch of medical suits from Poroshenko and Roschen Foundation landed and was delivered free of charge to all hospitals in Ukraine.
Poroshenko said, “He is ready to provide any assistance to the state,” adding that he is ready to cooperate with all stakeholders: the state, the government, NGOs, political organizations, and philanthropists to stop the spread of epidemics and protect doctors.
