It is not specified yet how soon the movement on the water artery will resume.
In turn, The Wall Street Journal, citing the head of the channel’s administration Osama Rabia, informs that the container ship has so far been partially removed from the shoal. Now the tugs are trying to level the ship. “This is good news,” Rabia said. “We’re not done yet, but it’s moved.”
Earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi instructed to begin preparations for the unloading of the container ship Evergreen, which ran aground in the Suez Canal.
The Ever Given 400-meter container ship, chartered by Evergreen, ran aground in the narrowest part of the Suez Canal, six nautical miles from its southern entrance, on Tuesday, March 23. The vessel blocked a waterway for navigation. The previous cause of the incident was called a gust of wind, which caused the container ship to deviate from the course.
As a result of the incident, more than 300 vessels have accumulated at the entrances to the Suez Canal, awaiting the release of the artery, which is the main sea route between Asia and Europe. According to Bloomberg, their shipments are estimated at more than 10 billion dollars. Some of the ships have already advanced around Africa.
