The other day the 13th meeting of the Ukrainian-German working group on scientific and technological cooperation took place. During the event, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykola Kyzym signed the Bonn Declaration – a joint declaration of the European Research Area on freedom of research and free movement of researchers.

“For scientists, Ukrainian integration into the European Research Area is an important tool to enhance cooperation with the scientific community of the EU, and for the state – a tool adapting standards and norms of the European Union in the field of science and innovation ” – Mykola Kizim.
In order to establish a clear position on the protection of academic freedom within Europe, the document sets out the principles and objectives of research as a basis for international cooperation in science, research, and innovation.
The Bonn statement was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science of Germany in the framework of the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The declaration was adopted on 20 October 2020 in Bonn as part of the Ministerial Conference on the European Research Area.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education and Science has approved an updated roadmap for Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area and has begun work on its implementation.
Integration into the European Research Area is an important tool for deepening cooperation with the EU scientific community and adapting the standards and norms of the European Union in the field of science and innovation. In 2021, the Ministry began work on the implementation of the EDP roadmap.
