The event will be held at ExCeL Lon, in a massive vote of confidence in the city.
When Congress last came to London, it attracted 32,700 delegates from 140 countries. The 2021 ESC was scheduled to take place in London, but now it is only a digital event.
ESC CEO Isabelle Bardent said the decision was a “strong statement” in support of ESC members and health professionals.
She said, “It is also thanks to the public who enthusiastically participated in the public events of the recent ESC, demonstrating that together we can reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.” “London has proven itself as a dynamic and reliable partner in this fight for health, and we are sure it will do so again.”
ESC is one among a number of medical societies that have chosen London and ExCeL including the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and the International Society for Thrombosis (ISTH). The European AIDS Conference (EACS) is scheduled to come to London next October, with the event continuing with fewer delegates in the city.
Susan Singleton, Head of Associations at the London Convention Bureau, welcomed: “It’s great news that the Economic and Social Council has chosen to return to London, especially after a challenging year for the London events sector.
The city is a dynamic destination for meetings and events, and a strong medical presence in the capital provides a wealth of opportunities for medical event planners, from world-leading medical research centers and four of the world’s top 20 universities for life sciences in London, Cambridge and Oxford and over 350 Medtech companies. Event planners benefit from access to top medical professionals, thought leaders, and sponsors.”
James Rees, CEO of ExCeL London, said he is pleased that the Economic and Social Council has made the decision to select ExCeL London for the 2024 conference in the city. “Having supported the ESC team to deliver a record event at, we look forward to commencing detailed planning for 2024 and integrating continued investment and innovation in ExCeL’s physical and digital infrastructure to meet the future needs of this world-leading conference,” he said.”
