Polish President Andrzej Duda awarded the Medals of Virtue and Brotherhood to citizens of five countries, including Ukraine, who helped Poles in the twentieth century. This was reported in the press center of the President of the Republic of Poland.

In total, nine people were noted: from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.
According to the report, the medals were awarded to Petro and Maria Bazelyuk, who hid the Slojewski family from Guta Stepanska in Volyn during the war, and to Petro Grudzewicz, who opposed Soviet officials in 1986 by refusing to remove the cross from the graves of Polish soldiers who died. in the battle against the Bolsheviks in 1920.
“It simply came to our notice then. A moment when we can thank those who managed to show virtue and brotherhood in the most difficult times, even in such a modest way, ”Andrzej Duda was quoted as saying by his office.

This is the second time that the President of Poland has awarded a special medal to foreigners for helping Poles in the last century, Radio Svoboda reports.
