A cloud of methane has been discovered in South Africa. At the same time, the concentration of dangerous gas over the African country was equal to the emissions of 260 thousand cars moving at a speed of 95 kilometers per hour.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – June 17, 2021 – Reports
The methane cloud was discovered on May 10, an estimated 65 metric tons per hour. The cloud was spotted about 125 kilometers east of Johannesburg in an area where Sasol LLC has several coal mines, as well as chemical and fuel operations.
Fossil fuel mining also causes methane emissions, as companies sometimes release gas that enters the ground to reduce the risk of explosions. Methane can continue to flow after mines are closed or mines are left. By the end of the decade, the industry is expected to generate about 10% of man-made methane emissions under the Global Methane Initiative.
The G7 (G7) agreed on June 12 to allocate $ 100 billion annually to climate development projects in developing countries.
